About Native Science Report

Founded in 2013, Native Science Report explores the role of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in tribal and Native communities across North America. Much of our reporting focuses on the work of tribally controlled colleges and universities. However, we follow STEM-related trends in all Native communities and document relevant research, wherever it is taking place.

We are particularly interested in how Native communities are broadening the meaning of science, and using science to address the needs of their own communities. We are also interested innovative programs that strengthen STEM education for Native students, especially in higher education. We define science broadly and embrace both Western and indigenous knowledge systems.

Native Science Report is sponsored by Sisseton Wahpeton College, a tribally controlled college located on the Lake Traverse Reservation of South Dakota, and is supported by the National Science Foundation, grant number 1838993.
